Founded on the pioneering vision of Martin Ray, a trailblazer in California winemaking from 1943 to 1972 in Saratoga in the Santa Cruz Mountains, the winery has long championed single varietal, region specific wines crafted with a Burgundian mindset. In 1990, Courtney Benham revived the historic name after discovering a cache of Martin Ray wines and committing to produce artisanal, terroir driven bottlings worthy of its legacy. Since establishing Martin Ray Vineyards and Winery in the Russian River Valley in 2003, the team has remained devoted to making wines of place by sourcing exceptional vineyard sites across California, from the Estate in Green Valley to renowned appellations in Sonoma, Napa, and the Santa Cruz Mountains.
